Do i get all of my medicare sessions through my mental health care plan?
For individual sessions the GP will give you 6 to begin with. After your 6th session, our psychologists will send a letter to your gp. Rebook with your GP to then obtain another 4 sessions. For group sessions, the GP will give you ten sessions.
For those who have chronic conditions GP's will at times offer an additional number of sessions to be aided by medicare under a 'gp health plan'. This can be anywhere between 2-5 sessions. For those who can access an eating disorder mental health care plan, you are entitled to 40 sessions medicare rebated. The GP will give you an initial ten and you will need to return after each round of ten sessions to obtain the next ten.

What if i don't use all of my sessions this year?
You are entitled to ten sessions per calendar year. If you only use some, then they will carry over to next year under the same plan HOWEVER you will not be able to access more than ten for that year. So for example, if you still have 3 remaining under as the year rolls around, you will only be able to access 7 more on a new mental health care plan for that year.
If i join an ongoing group, how long do i commit for?
You are always in control. Anything you do with us is on the basis of voluntary participation. It's always good to think about the end, there is no rule around how long it needs to be. It is recommended that if you want to leave group that you go through a "termination process". This looks like typically having 3 sessions to discuss the ending.
What if i'm not liking my therapist?
If you're having trouble with your therapist, the first recommendation is to talk about the trouble you're having with them. This is often actually part of the therapeutic journey, to be able to go through discomfort in a relationship. Therapist's are trained for this. At the same time, if you're really struggling and want to change then speak with our admin team or know that you are always here on a voluntary basis and free to leave whenever you would like.
Will private health cover some of my therapy?
Each private health fund is different, and they also differ depending on your coverage. You will need to speak with them about rebating your sessions. We work with most private health providers.
